Human behaviour is at the origin of the problem.
All the materials dispersed in the environment have been produced, used or abandoned by human beings. Make people aware and responsible for their actions, is an important step for problem solving.
For this reason, it is very important to develop targeted-specific communication and raising awareness campaigns fostered on sustainable behaviours.
…Young people first of all::
Environmental summer campus for children and youngsters: organised by Legambiente – an NGO working for the environment since 1980 – summer campus will take place in Pietra Ligure (one of the municipalities involved in the project) and represent an opportunity of learning and sharing experiences.
…Citizens and Tourists:
Local SMILE info point will be settled in the Pilot Area in order to involve and inform citizens and tourists.A warning system – based on a Smartphone APP and the creation of a dedicated Smile Phone Number – will be designed on purpose so to allow people reporting on the abandoned items they find along the river side.
A questionnaire will be submitted so to test perception on marine litter negative effects both at a social and economic level having two specific aims: to comprehend stakeholders’ perception; to raise their awareness about marine litter “hidden” implications.
…Local Public Administrators:
Training and information sessions concerning the most efficient systems of waste collection, management and disposal tested at national and European level will be organised.
